Production and impact
Biidaaban produces specification-grade FAME biodiesel in Hamilton using flexible production technology and established industrial infrastructure. The facility strengthens Canadian fuel supply while supporting federal and Ontario emissions-reduction objectives.
FuelA renewable alternative to petroleum diesel
Biodiesel is a renewable, biodegradable fuel made by converting vegetable oils, animal fats, and recycled cooking grease (collectively referred to as “feedstock”) into fuel for diesel engines. It is commonly blended with petroleum diesel; for example, B20 contains 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel. Biidaaban produces specification-grade FAME biodiesel in Hamilton to ASTM and CGSB standards.

Biidaaban’s domestic production supports the objectives of the Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), Cleaner Transportation Fuels Regulation (CTFR), and Emissions Performance Standards (EPS) by increasing Canadian low-carbon fuel capacity and reducing fuel-related emissions. Where eligible, this production generates federal and provincial compliance credits that Biidaaban sells to regulated parties to help them meet their regulatory obligations.

Canada-wide fuel suppliers, Ontario fuel suppliers, and Ontario industrial emitters use biodiesel in different compliance settings. For eligible Ontario companies, buying from Biidaaban can support all three compliance needs—CFR, CTFR, and EPS—through one domestic supply relationship rather than addressing each program separately.

About Us
A new company built around a proven Hamilton asset
Biidaaban Renewable Energy was formed to restart and operate the Hamilton biodiesel facility after HOPA Ports stepped in to preserve the plant through its idle period.
Today, the company brings together majority ownership by the Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation, long-term access to the port-side facility, and a management and operating team with direct experience building and running commercial biodiesel operations at the site.
The result is an Indigenous-led Canadian producer with an established asset, proven technology, and the commercial capabilities required to return domestic biodiesel to the undersupplied Canadian market.
We believe the transition to a low-carbon economy presents a unique opportunity for Indigenous leadership in Canada's energy sector. Biidaaban is committed to developing innovative renewable fuel solutions that support energy security, environmental stewardship, and economic development.

The experience behind the restart
Chief Operating Officer
Nak Paik
Nak brings direct technical and operating experience from the Hamilton facility, including previous leadership of commercial biodiesel operations and process-development work. As COO, he leads the restart and the plant’s technical and operational execution.
The wider team brings experience in facility management and plant operations, renewable fuels commercialization, infrastructure development, market strategy, project finance, and transactions. An agreement with Unifor signed in July 2026 established a path for experienced Local 593 members to return to the Hamilton facility during the restart. Read the workforce announcement

HOPA Ports
HOPA Ports is an integrated port network serving Hamilton, Oshawa, and Niagara. At the Port of Hamilton, it preserved the biodiesel plant through its idle period so the facility and its productive capacity would not be lost.
HOPA connects Biidaaban to the marine, rail, and road infrastructure of the Port of Hamilton, giving the operation direct access to the industrial waterfront and Canadian fuel supply chains.
